Senate passes "Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006"
The "Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006" passed the United States Senate on May 25, by a vote of 62-36. Legislation to secure U.S. borders and offer millions of illegal immigrants access to the American dream cleared the Senate on Thursday, a rare election-year reach across party lines and a triumph for President Bush. The vote cleared the way for arduous summertime compromise talks with the House and its more conservative measure — with no guarantee of success," the AP writes. "'This bill will not secure our borders,' said Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., one of the most persistent critics. "This is amnesty," added David Vitter, R-La., who tried last week to strip out provisions relating to citizenship.
Rather than face the reality of today's immigration crisis, the Senate has enacted a terrible bill that once again puts the interests of the American people last. The bill's cost is staggering, the administrative burdens crushing and the consequences for the cohesion of the future American nation -- no longer bound by a common destiny of the rule of law -- are severe. Illegalimmigrants.org stridently opposes any compromise with the House on this irresponsible and arrogant bit of legislating.
The American people have been demanding that their elected officials take action to limit illegal immigration first by securing our borders, then by addressing guest worker reform. Unfortunately, this bill reversed those priorities. Rewarding illegal immigrants with amnesty without taking adequate steps to secure our borders is the wrong way to address this problem.
America is a welcoming nation that was built by immigrants, but it is also a nation governed by the rule of law. Rewarding illegal immigrants with a clear path to citizenship and voting rights is unfair to the millions of individuals who immigrated to this country legally. This approach will also make the problem of illegal immigration worse, which is precisely what happened after Congress passed a similar law in 1986.
It is impossible for Congress to accurately assess our need for guest workers before we have taken the steps necessary to secure our borders. It is important for Congress to understand that the public will not trust them on this issue until our borders are secure. Once they take that step, I believe the American people would support a compassionate and common sense plan for dealing with our need for guest workers and the 12 million illegal immigrants who are already here.
It's hard to justify legislation that would reward millions of law-breakers, attract more illegal immigrants, and futher depress American workers' wages. The Senate bill may be good for other countries and foreign workers, but it's not good for America and American workers.
Although the bill contains some enforcement measures, how can a government that has not enforced current immigration laws be expected to enforce new ones?
The Senators who sold out the American public for corporate interests and who do not deserve to be reelected voted "yea":
S.Amdt.4089 and 4188 contain the following language whereby the United States Govenment needs Mexico's approval concerning the security of our border:
S.Amdt.4089: CONSULTATION REQUIREMENT.--Consultations between United States and Mexican authorities at the federal, state, and local levels concerning the construction of additional fencing and related border security structures along the United States-Mexico border shall be undertaken prior to commencing any new construction, in order to solicit the views of affected communities, lessen tensions and foster greater understanding and stronger cooperation on this and other important issues of mutual concern.
S.Amdt.4188: Managers' amendment, a collection of amendments, including Dodd's S.Amdt.4089 that requires local, state and federal governments to consult with Mexican counterpart authorities before commencing new construction, was PASSED on a 56 - 41 vote.
MEXICO ESSENTIALLY GETS VETO POWER OVER OUR SECURE BORDER INTIATIVE.
The American people expect Congress to secure our borders and stop the flood of illegal immigration, and House Republicans responded by passing a strong border security bill that re-establishes basic respect for our immigration laws. Now that the Senate has passed a bill we can wipe our butts with, we owe it to the American people to seek common ground on responsible solutions, while always stressing our most important priority is to secure our borders and stop illegal immigration.
I urge House Democrats, who have constantly advocated troubling policies that encourage open borders and invite more illegal immigrants into our country, to join us in supporting a strong bill that addresses the concerns of the American people and makes our borders more secure.
BUSH MAY 15th BORDER SPEECH: AMERICAN CITIZENS BEWARE!
In a gesture so mendacious that it gives whole new meaning to the notion of “transparency in government”, President Bush unveiled a plan to place National Guard troops on the US border with Mexico. Three talking points emerged:
- The President announced plans to send several thousand National Guard troops to the border, ostensibly to shore up Border Patrol efforts and reduce the flow of illegals crossing into the country. Anyone concerned that National Guard units, already stretched to the breaking point in Iraq, are not up to the job can rest assured. Yesterday, Bush told a “worried” Vicente Fox that the Guard’s presence on the border would be only temporary -- the time it takes, no doubt, to push his amnesty legislation through Congress. "The United States is not going to militarize the border." But you go ahead and militarize yours, Vicente.
- The President promised to ratchet up workplace enforcement, cracking down on those who employ illegal labor. That won’t be hard: under Bush’s leadership, workplace enforcement has plummeted to nearly zero. In coming weeks, expect a flurry of high profile round-ups and then, just as suddenly, a return to business as usual. Here, again, timing is everything. "We'll end catch and release at the southern border once and for all". Why just at the southern border? Catch and release is a deadly problem everywhere.
- The President once again touted the Senate version of his wildly unpopular “guest worker” amnesty. Viewer discretion was advised: he essentially recycled all of the unsavory and insulting platitudes with which he has used to address the issue from the start of his administration. Bush has truly lost touch with reality, arguing that guest worker/amnesty will reduce the incentive to cross the border. Reality check.
Anyone out there who is still prepared to grant Bush a shred of credibility on immigration should consider the following:
- That, since taking office, the Bush administration and its appointees at the Department of Homeland Security have consistently sabotaged efforts to deal with illegal immigration: killing successful interior enforcement efforts, failing to meet promised Border Patrol hiring and funding objectives, turning a blind eye to Mexican government meddling in America’s internal affairs and, perhaps most spectacularly of all, reversing the Clinton administration’s already shamefully modest efforts to guarantee workplace enforcement.
Don't be fooled: Bush has no intention of cleaning up the mess at the border. I personally am sick and tired of this feckless President lying through his teeth to appease ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.
- That all of this has been done despite strong voter opposition to current immigration “policy” and with complete disregard for its consequences for a whole array of pressing public issues: the threat to national security, rapid population growth and demographic transformation, downward pressure on native born wages, the burgeoning illegal alien crime wave, deteriorating public services and increasing tax-payer burden and, last but not least, the prospects of all this for social solidarity and national identity in the 21st-century.
Driven by a post-national vision and a large dose of personal vanity, Bush doesn’t care about the consequences for American citizens.
- Bush’s plan, meanwhile, will only aggravate an already unmanageable situation. By regularizing the status of the 10 to 20 million illegals presently residing in the country, the legislation presently before the Senate will simply serve as an incentive to yet more illegal immigration, sending a green light to a new wave of would-be border crossers at the same time it gives unscrupulous employers a new incentive to underbid the market.
Far from ending the black market in illegal labor, Bush’s plan will simply create a parallel market of semi-legal guest workers. Both will compete with Americans for jobs.
Bush’s plans for amnesty have already cost him dearly in public opinion polls and are set to cost the Republican Party even more at the next election. But it should be clear that the issues at stake here exceed run-of-the-mill politics. The status quo is unacceptable, and illegal immigration NEEDS be the issue that decides the 2006 Congressional and 2008 Presidential Elections.
However things go in coming weeks, this is a decisive moment for the country. Bush’s reckless support for amnesty has cost him but it is a price he’s willing to pay. I suspect that most Americans are not. If we wish to keep our country, we had better start showing it. Call your representatives and tell them what you think. Support the House of Representatives' enforcement-only legislation; reject the Senate's "guestworker" amnesty sell-out.

Mexican Standoff

I don't know how everybody else feels about it, but to me I think Hispanic people in this country, legally or illegally, made a huge public relations mistake with their recent demonstrations.
I don't blame anybody in the world for wanting to come to the United States of America, as it is a truly wonderful place. But when the first thing you do when you set foot on American soil is illegal it is flat out wrong and I don't care how many lala land left heads come out of the woodwork and start trying to give me sensitivity lessons.
I don't need sensitivity lessons, in fact I don't have anything against Mexicans! I just have something against criminals and anybody who comes into this country illegally is a criminal and if you don't believe it try coming into America from a foreign country without a passport and see how far you get.
What disturbs me about the demonstrations is that it's tantamount to saying, "I am going to come into your country even if it means breaking your laws and there's nothing you can do about it." It's an "in your face" action and speaking just for me, I don't like it one little bit and if there were a half-dozen pairs of gonads in Washington bigger than English peas it wouldn't be happening.
Where are you, you bunch of lily-livered, panty-waist, forked-tongued, sorry excuses for defenders of The Constitution? Have you been drinking the water out of the Potomac again? And even if you pass a bill on immigration it will probably be so pork-laden and watered-down that it won't mean anything anyway. Besides, what good is another law going to do when you won't enforce the ones on the books now?
And whatever happened to the polls guys? I thought you folks were the quintessential finger-wetters. Well, you sure ain't paying any attention to the polls this time because somewhere around eighty percent of Americans want something done about this mess, and a mess it is and getting bigger everyday.
This is no longer a problem, it is a dilemma and headed for being a tragedy. Do you honestly think that what happened in France with the Muslims can't happen here when the businesses who hire these people finally run out of jobs and a few million disillusioned Hispanics take to the streets?
If you, Mr. President, Congressmen and Senators, knuckle under on this and refuse to do something meaningful it means that you care nothing for the kind of country your children and grandchildren will inherit.
But I guess that doesn't matter as long as you get re-elected. Shame on you.
One of the big problems in America today is that if you have the nerve to say anything derogatory about any group of people (except Christians) you are going to be screamed at by the media and called a racist, a bigot and anything else they can think of to call you.
Well I've been pounded by the media before and I'm still rockin' and rollin' and when it comes to speaking the truth I fear not. And the truth is that the gutless, gonad-less, milksop politicians are just about to sell out the United States of America because they don't have the intestinal fortitude to stand up and face reality. And the reality is that we would never allow any other group of people to have 12 million illegals in this country and turn around and say, "Oh, it's ok, ya'll can stay here if you'll just allow us to slap your wrist." And I know that some of you who read this column are saying "Well what's wrong with that?"
I'll tell you what's wrong with it. These people could be from Mars as far as we know. We don't know who they are, where they are or what they're up to and the way Congress is going we're not going to.
Does this make sense? Labor force you say? We already subsidize corporate agriculture as it is, must we subsidize their labor as well?
If these people were from Haiti would we be so fast to turn a blind eye to them or if they were from Somalia or Afghanistan? I think not.
All the media shows us are pictures of hard-working Hispanics who have crossed the border just to try to better their life. They don't show you pictures of the Feds rounding up members of MS 13, the violent gang who came across the same way the decent folks did. They don't tell you about the living conditions of the Mexican illegals some fat cat hired to pick his crop.
I want to make two predictions...
- This situation is going to grow and fester until it erupts in violence on our streets while the wimps in Washington drag their toes in the dirt and try to figure how many tons of political hay they can make to the acre.
- Somebody is going to cross that border with some kind of weapon of mass destruction and set it off in a major American city after which there will be a backlash such as this country has never experienced and the Capitol building in Washington will probably tilt as Congressmen and Senators rush to the other side of the issue.
I don't know about you but I would love to see just one major politician stand up and say, "I don't care who I make mad and I don't care how many votes I lose, this is a desperate situation and I'm going to lead the fight to get it straightened out."
I don't blame anybody for wanting to come to America, but if you don't respect our immigration laws why should you respect any others. And by the way, this is America and our flag has stars and stripes. Please get that other one out of my face.

Send a Message - "Not Another Dollar!"
The next time you receive a contribution solicitation in the mail from the President, an open-borders Congressional candidate or any open-border organization, give generously! Print out several copies of this currency and stuff them in the envelope. To hammer the point home, write something like this: "You will not receive another dollar from me until the border is secured, you stop rewarding illegal aliens, and you put American interests ahead of special interests!"

The priority of elected officials must be American citizens, not corporations and not illegal aliens
The recent immigration protests nationwide and in Houston have brought the issue to the forefront, provoking strong reactions from millions of Americans. The protesters' cause of open borders is not well served when they drape themselves in Mexican, Guatemalan and Honduras flags and chant vulgar slogans of "La Raza" and "Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan" in Spanish. If anything, their protests underscore the Balkanization of America caused by widespread illegal immigration. How much longer can we maintain huge unassimilated subgroups within America, filled with millions of people who don't speak English or participate fully in American life?
The status quo is unacceptable, and illegal immigration NEEDS be the issue that decides the 2006 Congressional and 2008 Presidential Elections.
We're often reminded that America is a nation of immigrants, implying that we are coldhearted to restrict immigration in any way. That simply is not the case. But the new Americans reaching our shores in the late 1800's and early 1900's (like my grandparents) were legal immigrants. In many cases they had no chance of returning home again. They maintained their various ethnic and cultural identities, but they also learned English and embraced their new nationality.
Today, the overwhelming majority of Americans - including legal immigrants - want immigration reduced, not expanded. The economic, cultural, and political situation was very different 100 years ago.
We're often told that immigrants do the jobs Americans won't do, and sometimes this is true. But in many instances illegal immigrants simply increase the supply of labor in a community, which lowers wages. And while cheap labor certainly benefits the economy as a whole, when calculating the true cost of illegal immigration we must include the cost of social services that many new immigrants consume - especially medical care.
WE MUST REJECT AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS IN ANY FORM.
We cannot continue to reward lawbreakers and expect things to get better. If we reward millions who came here illegally, surely millions more will follow suit. Ten years from now we will be in the same position, with a whole new generation of lawbreakers seeking amnesty. Amnesty also insults legal immigrants, who face years of paperwork and long waits to earn precious American citizenship.
Birthright citizenship similarly rewards lawbreaking, and must be stopped. As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be citizens, the perverse incentive to sneak into this country remains strong. Based on the intent of the framers of the Fourteenth Amendment, some believe that Congress could exercise its Section 5 powers to prevent the children of illegal aliens from automatically becoming citizens of the United States. An effort in 1997 failed in the face of intense political opposition from immigrant rights groups. Apparently, the question remains open to the determination of the political and legal processes.
Citizenship involves more than the mere location of one's birth. True citizenship requires cultural connections and an allegiance to the United States. Americans are happy to welcome those who wish to come here and build a better life for themselves, but we rightfully expect immigrants to show loyalty and attempt to assimilate themselves culturally. Birthright citizenship sometimes confers the benefits of being American on people who do not truly embrace America.
We need to allocate far more resources, both in terms of money and manpower, to securing our borders and coastlines here at home. This is the most critical task before us both in terms of immigration problems and the threat of foreign terrorists.
OUR BORDERS ARE NO MORE SECURE TODAY THAN THEY WERE ON 9-11-2001
Here in South Texas I have personally witnessed with my own eyes thousands of illegal immigrants enter this country through our border with Mexico and the United States Government does absolutely nothing to apprehend the lawbreakers. Ranchers are forced to put ladders over barbed wire fences so illegal's won't cut the wire. When ranchers find illegal's (an everyday occurrence), they put them in the truck and take them to the north side of the ranch, as the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will not assist. Many of the illegals are not from Mexico or Central American countries, but rather Algeria, Libya, Occupied Palestine, Yemen and other Middle Eastern countries.
Here is a list written in Arabic I found on an Algerian illegal in Val Verde County, Texas on April 11, 2006:
I invite all readers to come to Southwest Texas and observe for yourself how unsafe and insecure our 1000 mile border with Mexico is. What we are witnessing down here is an invasion masquerading as immigration. I am deeply saddened that America has learned absolutely nothing from the September 11, 2001 attacks and that 2,986 innocent people died in vain. Until we secure our borders, terrorism, illegal immigration and the problems associated with it will only increase.

While American troops are hunkered down in "safe zones" in Iraq trying to stay out of an escalating civil war, our government seems oblivious to a growing threat of civil war right here in the United States. As anyone can see, millions of illegal aliens living here are becoming more vocal, more demonstrative, more belligerent, and more violence-prone by the day. Unless our government takes deliberate and significant action immediately, America could be in for serious civil unrest real soon.
It is absolutely incredible that our government would tolerate people who are not even legal residents of our country to generate the kind of mass demonstrations and protests that we are witnessing on a daily basis! It is more than incredible; it is outrageous! According to The Christian Science Monitor (April 10, 2006), immigrants (most of them illegal) are "mobilizing for major action" on May 1, 2006. Nearly 100 American cities will soon feel the brunt of this "action." They will have an ocean of white T-shirts painted with their "political demands" from east coast to west coast and "will settle for nothing less than full amnesty and dignity for the millions of undocumented workers (illegal immigrants) presently in the U.S." Organizers describe these coming demonstrations as "the biggest social movement of Hispanics since the United Farm Workers of Cesar Chavez." In addition, organizers predict that thousands of Muslims will also join millions of illegal Hispanics on what can only be regarded as an anti-America crusade.
The Mexican government is deliberately and systematically working to destabilize the very fabric and framework of American society (link). For the past two years, the Mexican government has been giving out a colorful comic book with advice for illegally immigrating to the United States. The 32-page book, "GUÍA DEL MIGRANTE MEXICANO" (The Guide for the Mexican Migrant), is published by the Mexico Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriores (Mexico's Foreign Ministry). Using simple fifth grade Spanish, the book offers "safety information" for illegal border crossers, a primer on their legal rights and advice on living unobtrusively in the United States.
Dramatic drawings show illegal immigrants wading into a river, running from the U.S. Border Patrol and crouching near a hole in a border fence. On other pages, they hike through a desert with rock formations reminiscent of Arizona and are caught by a stern-faced Border Patrol agent. "This guide is intended to give you some practical advice that could be of use if you have made the difficult decision to seek new work opportunities outside your country," the book says. Seven pages are devoted to illegal immigrants legal rights after they are detained and another four to living peacefully in the United States. Ironically, there are absolutely NO pages dedicated to legally emigrating to the United States.
President George W. Bush and Senators John McCain and Ted Kennedy (among others) are aiding and abetting this effort. It should be painfully obvious to most all of us that our federal government has no intention of stopping or even reducing illegal immigration. It seems all too clear that we have a totally useless President and equally pitiful Congress that are willing to allow foreign lawbreakers to invade our country and live off taxpayer welfare with total impunity. Right now, much of Latin America is embroiled in a serious takeover by Leftist-Marxists. In all likelihood, Mexico’s next leader will be an open Leftist. Vicente Fox has helped create an increased appetite for socialism (not that Mexico ever had a true understanding of freedom and republicanism), and the next Mexican leader is certain to finish the job.
However, Fox has done more than turn his own country leftward. He has superintended over the biggest invasion of the United States in our country’s history. That’s right, invasion! A close, personal friendship with President George W. Bush has given Fox the opportunity to purposely allow (or even send) millions of criminals, thugs, anarchists, and potential terrorists (including Arabs) to swarm over our southern border in breathtaking numbers. (Nearly half of all illegal aliens currently living in the U.S. came here since Bush became president in 2000.)
Yet, while Mexican President Fox encourages and even promotes massive illegal immigration to the United States, his own country’s Constitution in Chapter 3, Article 33, states, "The Executive of the Union has the exclusive right to expel from the national territory, immediately and without necessity of judicial proceedings, all foreigners whose stay it judges inconvenient. Foreigners may not, in any manner, involve themselves in the political affairs of the country." Imagine that, foreigners involving themselves in the political affairs of Mexico.
Even without the massive demonstrations by millions of foreign invaders, America is reeling from the negative effects that these people have created on Aptil 10, 2006. In an open letter to President Bush, Ron Maxwell (writer and director of "Gettysburg" and "Gods and Generals") wrote, "Where was the concern for American schoolchildren forced to sit in overcrowded classes, for American patients forced to wait in overcrowded hospitals, for American workers whose wages are being undercut, for American drivers forced to sit in interminable traffic jams in over-whelmed freeway systems, for the victims of organized gangs, for the American college students who are turned away from publicly funded state universities, for many African Americans who are being literally displaced from their neighborhoods while being moved figuratively, once again, to the back of the bus, for those environmentalists and conservationists who want to protect open space and slow down urban sprawl, for the American taxpayers who have had to bear the burden of billions of dollars in increased welfare costs, over-burdened prisons, extra police and security and even, adding insult to injury, for bilingual education?" This means making it a crime for any employer to knowingly hire an illegal alien punishable with serious fines and imprisonment for repeat offenses. It means demanding that our federal government seal our borders and stop the tide of foreign invasion immediately. If Saudi Arabia can put up a security fence between itself and Iraq (and it is doing just that), we can put one up between us and Mexico! It means to stop underwriting these foreign invaders by not paying for their health care, schooling, and food stamps. It means to stop giving them drivers licenses. It means making certain that the punishment is worse than any potential benefit.
We can either deal with the illegal immigration problem now as described above or we will certainly deal with open civil war in the very near future. The American people better decide right now which it will be, because time is running out for Congress to be able to fix the problem. Once that happens, we won’t have to worry about civil war in Iraq, because it will happen right here in the United States.
U.S. Department of "Homeland Security"
Calling an illegal immigrant an "undocumented worker" is like calling a burglar an uninvited house guest.
The U. S. Department of Homeland Security and their "Secure Border Initiative" (SBI), which is a comprehensive multi-year plan to secure America's borders and reduce illegal immigration, is the largest smoke and mirror campaign the Federal Government has come up with since the 9-11 tragedy. Their only purported concern is the expedited removal of "other than Mexican" (OTM) illegal aliens to their home countries. You read that correctly, OTHER THAN MEXICAN. In 2005 they deported 3000 OTM's out of 1.1 million illegal immigrants that entered the United States and were apprehended, a whopping 0.27%! (Source: www.ice.gov)
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and Julie L. Myers, Assistant Secretary for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are delusional concerning the vital importance of border security. Chertoff claims the United States must be full partners with the rest of the world in a free-flowing pattern of travel and trade, because "Americans lose when we put up walls." Chertoff asserts that the United States must protect its borders "in a way that doesn't close them, but that simply makes them safer and more secure." His naive plan is unworkable and is reminiscent of something drawn in the sand like a football play at a pickup game on the back lot.
Clearly, Secretary Chertoff is yet another of the Bush Administration's failed appointments who needs desperately to get off the "clueless couch". Following Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Chertoff himself appeared misinformed about the situation, even calling the catastrophe at the Convention Center "rumors" after it had been in the news most of the day. While defending the federal government's response in a September 3, 2005 press conference, Chertoff asserted that no one had ever predicted a disaster of this magnitude; however, warnings had in fact come for years from experts in the private sector as well as government agencies at all levels, including FEMA itself, who had identified a disaster such as this as one of the three most likely catastrophes to strike the US. Please do not believe the official Federal Government rhetoric about "Homeland Security" and terrorism, if we cannot secure our borders, we cannot have a secure homeland. The National Threat Advisory Level will remain at "Elevated" or higher for a Significant Risk of Terrorist Attack until the Department of Homeland Security and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement secures ALL American borders.
It's time for the citizens of the United States of America to wake up, to get off their cell phones, iPod's and BlackBerry's, and tell Congress YOU WANT ALL UNITED STATES BORDERS SECURE!

Federal Immigration Laws between 1760-2006...
The issue of immigration and expansion westward became more and more important to the political leaders of the thirteen colonies. In 1763, King George III, based on advice from his ministers, issued a proclamation that "until further notice no colonial government could grant, and no white man take, land beyond the sources of rivers that flow into the Atlantic." British leaders were motivated to prevent further westward expansion because they wanted pioneers to settle in areas that were under the influence of the British government rather than out in the distant regions of the American wilderness where they would be free to rely on their own colonial rules and laws.
